This resource is a keyword index. Please note: the texts found here have been transcribed without editorial revision. Spellings reflect the customs of the period, and names contain the wide variety of spellings and forms which occurs when information is passed orally and by handwritten copy. To anticipate variations of spelling having many different causes, therefore, it is recommended that queries be devised with a minimal number of characters; alternative queries and use of the wild card character * and the boolean operator OR are also recommended. Research of the personal names of printmakers and their collaborators may require more than expected patience to identify homonymous variants and misspellings caused by handwriting – e.g. the name of the artist "Jazet" sometimes appears as "Jazel". Consequently, all forms and variants of these names have been made available for scrutiny in the listings noted below in the note on Similarity Searching. The accuracy of the transcription of texts may be verified by consulting images of the pages of the Bibliographie de la France which are available online in the project Gallica.
