Nearly 7000 names -- and name variants -- appear in reference to artists, printmakers and print dealers in the listings of the Bibliographie de la France between 1811 and 1830. To retrieve the listings of an individual's works from the "Image of France" project, it is necessary to place queries under every name variant pertinant to the individual. Yet, it is not possible at present to provide a dictionary of these persons, with note of all of the name variants under which their works may be found. To assist in identifying the name variants under which prints are recorded in this database, we have extracted several lists of the names variants of artists, prtinmakers and print dealers, suitable for browsing -- and for research employing the "find" function of most web browsers. Please remember, when applying any of these names variants to the search form now in use for the project, (1) to remove all diacritical accents, without exception, and (2) to remove any periods and commas contained in the name variant and to close-up the space it occupies. Also, on this page is reference to several independent directories to suggest and verify points of query on personal names in the "Image of France." GDM |
