Aleksey Kolmogorov
kolmogorov@binghamton.edu

Undergraduate research in Physics Dept for CS MAJORS

Undergraduate projects on scientific code development and data management are available in Prof. Alexey Kolmogorov's group. The research is supported by the National Science Foundation and includes summer support. The group focuses on adapting bio-inspired algorithms to solving complex Physics problems. An evolutionary algorithm and a neural network formalism implemented in the group's MAISE package have already led to prediction and discovery of new materials. Students will have the opportunity to learn widely used numerical methods and contribute to the development of the software. Prior knowledge of numerical algorithms, c programming or web design would be helpful but not required. More information about the research can be found at http://www.binghamton.edu/physics/people/kolmogorov.html. Interested students are encouraged to arrange a meeting with Prof. Kolmogorov by email.

Bridging the Digital Divide Project
Contact:

The Bridging the Digital Divide Project works to provide community members with access to technology through computer literacy courses. We work with diverse populations such as youth from economically stressed backgrounds, senior citizens, the unemployed and under-employed, immigrants, refugees and formerly homeless individuals

Students will gain experience in technology and education, while building on important communication and problem-solving skills. Volunteers will teach community members basic computer skills, such as working with Microsoft Office, setting up an email account, learning how to navigate the Internet and social media, etc. If you are passionate about technology and helping the community, this is the opportunity for you!
