The numbering of plates follows tables for the arrangement of contents which were issued at end of the original subscriptions. This order differs from that of an alternative set of binding tables which were issued during the subscription so that the volumes could be bound before the subscription was complete. See George D. McKee, The "Museé français" and the "Museé royal": a history of the publication of an album of fine engravings, with a catalogue of plates, M.A. thesis, Graduate Library School, University of Chicago, 1981 -- copy available at the Département de l'Estampe, Bibliothéque nationale de France.
