Zeta Theta Chapter

Binghamton University (SUNY)

Pi Sigma Alpha is the national political science honor society. The Zeta Theta Chapter, established at Binghamton University in 1977, seeks to bring together outstanding students and faculty to promote the study of government and politics, and to encourage and reward high achievement in political science.

To join Pi Sigma Alpha, students must be currently enrolled political science majors at the university; hold a 3.3 overall GPA and a 3.6 GPA in political science (using Harpur College grades only in the GPA calculations); have completed five courses in political science, including at least two at Binghamton University and at least two at the 300-level (one AP course in political science may count toward the five courses); and have junior or senior class standing. Membership drives occur in both the fall and spring semester of each academic year; students seeking membership should submit the Zeta Theta Chapter's membership application and related materials by the deadline that is announced every semester.

During the 2006-2007 academic year, Pi Sigma Alpha sponsored a membership banquet with Mayor Matt Ryan of Binghamton as the keynote speaker. The chapter also sponsored a best paper competition. Both these activities were funded in whole or in part by the national office of Pi Sigma Alpha. The chapter advisor is currently Professor Gregory Robinson.
