! NOTICE !
In Week 1:

You MUST sign up for the CS205-L listserver (done via email to the list). To join the list:
  1. Send an email to: listserv@listserv.binghamton.edu (note: there is no “e” at the end of “listserv”)

  2. In the BODY of the email type: subscribe  CS205-L  lastname‚  firstname  lecture_code

Substitute your name for lastname‚ firstname. Don’t forget the comma.
DO NOT USE THE WORDS “LECTURE_CODE”. Just put the section code! (lecture code is A0 for night section or A1 for day section)
    Put spaces where shown.

Old listserv postings are available by using your web browser (Firefox or Internet Explorer) and going to listserv.binghamton.edu‚ then:

  1. Click on online mailing list archives
  2. Go to the bottom of the page and click on unlisted archive forms
  3. Type: CS205-L
  4. Click on the week you want to look at
  5. Pick the email item by subject

(See why subject lines are important? If everybody just uses cs205 as a subject line‚ there could be hundreds of emails with the same subject. How would you find the one you want?)

So don't just put 205/A0 (or A1) in the subject line!!! That should be in the BODY of your message.

Additional instructions can be found on Dr. Foreman’s Web page.

After Final Add Date:

You MUST request a presentation number by submitting the form linked to Dr. Foreman’s Web page.

When you signup for your presentation number‚ you MUST enter your CORRECT USERNAME! If you make a mistake‚ you MUST contact Dr. Foreman as he is the only person who can fix your mistake!

This must be done correctly as Dr. Foreman has a PROGRAM that creates the links. There is NO HUMAN involved except you! So if it’s wrong‚ you did it!

DO NOT try it until you are told it is ready. It won’t work!
! Warning !
You cannot pass the course without a presentation number. Starting with the 1st Web page assignment‚ you will receive a zero on all assignments until you get a number. These grades WILL NOT be changed.

About reading assignments:

Part of the “research” component of the course involves figuring out what the reading assignments should be. Look at the TOC and Indexes in your books and decide what you should read.
Think of this as part of your job. When the boss says‚ “I want this done”‚ you have to figure it out. This is a good time to learn how to do this.

About my Office Hours:

Since I only have one night of Office Hours at BU a week‚ you are welcome at my Office Hours at BCC. My office hours can be found on the schedule posted under the Professor Hinton Schedule link.

If the hours aren’t convenient‚ check my schedule about times I’m available in lab. They are blue. While not as convenient as Office Hours‚ they are more free–form and I would be able to speak with you in–between lab students.

If none of these options work‚ you can still ask me questions by joining my BCC online office hour at http://vyew.com/room#/081217/Office%20Hour. This online meeting room supports video, audio, and sharing my desktop. This is only available during my BCC office hours and Wednesday evening office hour.

As I'm often available in between classes, I may extend my online office hour. Check to see if I'm online by clicking the link above.

Academic Honesty Policy:

This course is governed by the Binghamton University Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science Student Academic Honesty Code. You can find the full text at: http://watson.binghamton.edu/Watson_Academic_Honesty_Policy.pdf
