The Soft Matter and Interfacial Phenomena Lab (SaIL) focuses broadly on soft matter physics and interfacial science in synthetic and biological systems. We are developing theories and computational simulation tools to discover the fundamental physical/chemical phenomena occurring at materials interfaces, to establish interaction-structure-property relationship, and to design new functional materials and devise new means of engineering them. Our interests extend from fundamental transport phenomena to technological applications, from basic materials questions to specific biological problems. We are also developing experimental capabilities by closely collaborating with other experimentalists to validate model predictions and to hypothesize and elucidate the underlying physics and mechanisms dictating the experimental observations.
