fmCases

A nationwide group of family medicine educators has created an excellent series of on-line interactive cases pertaining to many of the most common problems seen by family physicians. You can use these cases to ``fill in the gaps'' in your experience in the clerkship. Specifically, by about February, if you have not seen and submitted a SOAP note on any of the emphasized conditions (see above), you should start doing on-line cases on those topics. An online case from the fmCases website can substitute for a weekly SOAP note, and it can fulfill my intent for you to see each listed condition at least once.

A link to fmCases can be found on Blackboard. After working through a case, write up and submit a ``SOAP note'' indicating simply which case you did and one new thing you learned from it, like this:

``I did the headache case and I learned ...'' Don't just write what you learned about; that would look like this: ``I learned about the management of diabetes.'' Rather, write what you learned; that would look like this: ``I learned that metformin is the best drug to start with when pharmacotherapy is needed in a patient with type 2 diabetes.''

You should also enter your online cases into eValue.
