Translate in writing ch9 alpha story, lines 1-19. Skip multiple lines, three or more!

  • Be able to answer extremely simple questions about the content of the passage in Greek. (Get a sense of what's going on in the passage. It might help for you to summarize for your own notes)
  • Be able to answer simple questions (probably in English) about the grammar — basically for review
30-Aug Oral and written Greek as follows:
  • Review the Let's Speak Greek document (oral Greek worked on in class) as per usual
  • Translate in writing and hand in ch9 alpha story, lines 20-38. Be ready to answer questions in Greek and English, as per 27-Aug assignment
Henceforth, all classes will begin with Oral Greek based on review of Oral Greek previously done plus some new material added!

CH10 QUIZ-QUOTE, as per syllabus — translate it in writing, note down (in writing) a very brief comment to share in class. Be sure to read and process all notes and commentary. This is a tough one linguistically, and even tougher conceptually.

13-Oct Study pp. 219-221 (irreg. 2nd aorist stems, augment). Review handout ch11 for additional exploration of ch11 issues.

Read carefully pp. 284-286

  • Demonstratives οὗτος, ἐκεῖνος, ὅδε — note word-order issues! Interrogative and indefinite adverbs, note accent and word-order issues (interrogatives always accented, indefinites always enclitic, often unaccented).

Compare that with 14-beta material handout.
